Buffalo breeding is considered one of the most important areas of livestock. In some countries, especially in the eastern and southeastern regions, buffaloes are widely used as draught animals, but in America, Europe, and Eastern European сountries buffaloes are widely used to produce highquality and healthy meat and dairy products.

In order to fully meet the needs of the Azerbaijani population in local buffalo products, it is necessary to analyze the role of this sector in animal husbandry and determine its future potential. In this regard, the article examines the role of buffalo breeding in agriculture in Azerbaijan, especially in the sustainable development of small and medium-sized farms, the current state and problems of the industry, the importance and economic efficiency of breeding in buffalo, as well as the prospects for the further development of buffalo breeding.
