Factors affecting development of poultry breeding sector in Azerbaijan

The provision of local population with the high-quality and healthy food products, especially with the animal protein, is one of the main priorities of the Azerbaijani Government. This article analyzes the current situation of the poultry industry in Azerbaijan, especially the breeding poultry sector, legislation, public policy and regulatory mechanisms in this area, the on-going situation with imports and exports, the challenges faced by the industry, factors affecting the sustainable development of poultry in the context of new global challenges. The analyses of the other important issues related to the breeding poultry are also included.
The article also focuses on the problems of local entrepreneurs involved in the poultry breeding, as well as commercial poultry and egg producers, their concerns, opinions and proposals on finding out the solutions or ways to overcome current problems. The issues of the local poultry market, mostly depending on import, increasing the potential of poultry breeding through development of more productive mutual relationship and other important aspects were also analyzed and the appropriate proposals were suggested.
